Vasily Nebenzya: "Artek is a school of diplomacy"

Artek was visited by the Permanent Representative of Russia to the United Nations and the UN Security Council, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Vasily Nebenzya.  The guest launched the program "Children - Ambassadors of Peace" and talked to the staff of the International Child Center talent pool.

At the 9th shift of 2021, Artek is running a specialized program "Children - Ambassadors of Peace" in partnership with the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Foreign Ministry.  The program promotes the values of friendship, peace and solidarity, contributes to the development of international cooperation among young people.  One of its first events was a meeting with the Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN.

"Artek is a school of diplomacy. I am here for the third time and I just fell in love with this place:  with your sea, mountains, the Bear Mountain... I think the children visiting this place will learn what is known as the art of multilateral diplomacy," said Vasily Nebenzya. "This will be useful for the children, since one needs to be able to negotiate not only at the UN, but also in life.  I hope that the program "Children - Ambassadors of Peace" will become an integrated part of the educational program at Artek".

The diplomat delivered a message of greetings from the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation Sergey Lavrov to the Artek community.

"...Traditionally, Artek attracts the most talented, motivated, curious, caring and enthusiastic children representing traditions and culture of almost all corners of our country.  Fascinating events, new acquaintances, pleasant vacation and memorable meetings are awaiting you. It is symbolic that your international program is organized in an educational center recognized as a leading children's camp in the Russian Federation.  I am sure well-known Russian diplomats, experts and specialists in the field of international relations joining the shift will contribute to the prestige of the diplomatic service, and help you to decide on your future profession," says the message of greetings.

At the meeting, the Artek residents asked Vasily Nebenzya about the history of the diplomatic service, how it works today, what skills are essential for a modern diplomat.  They asked questions on the UN current agenda: climate change, sustainable development programs, cybersecurity ...

"From the conversation, we understood the position of our country on topics that are important for the international community.  We learned a lot about what a diplomat should be like.  Recommendations of Vasily Alekseevich will be useful to us during the program in the camp and in life.  We are glad that he had the opportunity to visit Artek," says Alyona Galynina from Moscow.

The program "Children - Ambassadors of Peace" continues.  Artek residents will join the school of young diplomats, play the quest "Diplomatic Mission", and participate in the dialogue platform workshop "UN Children's Assembly in Artek".
