Palmiro Togliatti (pseudonym Ercoli) (1893 – 1964)

One of the founders of the ICP. In 1940 – 1944 lived in the USSR. In 1944 to 1946 were part of the government of Italy. Since 1944, the Director of the magazine "Finasta". Since 1948, Chairman of the parliamentary group of IKP.

Arrival in "Artek" from 13 to 21 August 1964 (was a guest of the all-Union gathering of leaders October).

13 August, welcoming the participants of the all-Union gathering of leaders TNS (campfire children's camp "Marine"), Togliatti said: "... we have a different language, but we have one heart. And in your heart, and in my the same thoughts, one and t the same ideals... And you and we together are fighting for peace, we fight for the happiness of peoples, brotherhood among peoples...". Tolyatti have to honor the Artek campers. On August 21, as a result of sudden attack of a serious illness, he departed this life in the pioneer squad.

August 23 held a meeting of the Board squads "Sea" with the Italian pioneers, resting in "Artek". Guys sent to the address of the Central Committee of the Komsomol, the assignment of the camp "Marine" name Palmiro Togliatti.

25 Aug 1964 in pioneer squad "Marine" Decision of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Komsomol was named after Palmiro Togliatti .

Authors: Anatoly Trofimovich Polyansky, doctor of architecture (1970), laureate of the State prize of the USSR (1967) and Alexander Yemelyantsev, Moscow sculptor .

The monument represents the inframammary image of Palmiro Togliatti, mounted on a pedestal in the shape of a pyramid. Togliatti is depicted bareheaded, eyes looking straight. The monument is made of copper sheet. The height of the pedestal 2.9 meters. On the pedestal horizontally on the left side is written : Palmiro Togliatti


 

 
Samantha Smith (1972 – 1985)
an American schoolgirl from Manchester (Maine), a small Ambassador of peace.
 

Photo 1983 had a Rest in "Artek" children's camp "Sea" from 9 to 13 July 1983.

Smith wrote a letter to the General Secretary of the USSR Yuri Vladimirovich Andropov. The head of the Soviet state responded to the message little schoolgirl and asked her to visit the Soviet Union.

In 1983, Samantha along with mom and dad came to visit in the USSR. The program of the visit included a trip to "Artek".

Had a rest in "Artek" children's camp "Sea" from 9 to 13 July 1983.
